Denver Options' History

Our History

Denver Options, founded in 1992, has led the way in creating new services and resources to help people with intellectual disabilities live full, satisfying lives. Our goal is simple: To provide every individual with a wide range of choices to meet unique needs and individual priorities.

In 2003, Denver residents voted to increase property taxes to expand services to young children who have developmental delays and disabilities and their families. New funding dollars allowed us to provide effective emergency support to families in crisis and to triple the number of children (ages birth to three) receiving early intervention services in Denver County.

In 2005, we worked with the Denver community in the passage of Referendum C and have become a recognized leader in supporting people with developmental disabilities and their families.

Over the past fourteen years, we have created programs that increase resources and choices in response to identified needs, concerns and priorities of the people we serve:

Flexible Funding: Expands choices so families can choose where, when and how early intervention services will be delivered

Work Opportunities: Services to assist adults to find and keep interesting volunteer and employment opportunities

Traumatic Brain Injury Services: Our expertise has extended services to people with intellectual disabilities due to brain injuries

SibShops: Support services and groups for siblings are offered to share experiences and feelings and meet others in a fun, supportive setting

Youth Corp Projects: Ongoing collaboration with Denver Vocational Rehabilitation, Workforce Colorado and Denver Public Schools to provide necessary supports to help young people transition into the adult world

Denver Options’ services span a lifetime, beginning with early intervention to help every child with a delay or disability, receive critical care. We tailor resources and services to adults who have intellectual disabilities to help each individual reach their full potential. Denver Options works closely with families to connect them to resources, education opportunities and support groups. We partner with our community to maximize resources and support people to live full, satisfying lives.
