1. What is the Supported Living Services Program?
Supported Living Services (SLS) helps adults with developmental disabilities stay connected to their communities, develop their talents and interests, and gain increasing skills in independent living. People who receive our SLS services choose the services they want and benefit from long-term planning support.
2. Who qualifies for help through Supported Living Services?
The program provides help to adults, 18 and over, with developmental disabilities who live with their families or who live independently in the community.
3. I have heard that everyone in Supported Living Services has their own Support Broker. What does a Support Broker do?
Our Support Brokers listen to customers and help them achieve their goals and dreams. They help customers:
- Stretch individual budget dollars
- Find the best price for quality services
- Get people involved in their community
- Explore new ways to have fun
- Tap into free and low-cost community resources
- Solve problems
- Increase personal independence
4. How do Support Brokers help people increase their independence?
Our Support Brokers help people find day programs, connect to community resources, and match interests with fun activities. Brokers can set up opportunities for people to find different housing options and learn to navigate public transportation.
5. Do they offer help finding volunteer or employment opportunities?
Support Brokers help people with disabilities find employment opportunities and locate interesting volunteer work. Our Brokers know that finding and keeping satisfying work helps people with disabilities forge strong relationships throughout the community and make a meaningful contribution.
6. Can Supported Living Services help people manage health concerns?
Yes, through SLS people can learn nutrition and fitness strategies, connect to needed therapies and get support for vision, dental and hearing needs.
7. Is there a waiting list for Supported Living Services?
Yes, currently there is a waiting list for people who are eligible for Supported Living Services. We encourage children 14 and older to get their name on the waiting list.
